Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 24 2017 – The Written Word

Image
Topic: The Written Word [Monday April 24, 2017] Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. —  Psalm 119:105 The Bible is written as a personal letter to you. God speaks to you, ministers to your needs, and directs you in the way you should go in His written Word. He tells you what you should do and how you should live. It is a mistake to think we can hear clearly from God without spending time in the Word. Knowing the written Word protects you from deception. Listening for God's voice without being dedicated to spending time in the Word on a regular basis opens you up to hearing voices that are not from God. There may be times when God speaks something to you that is outside a specific chapter and verse of the Bible, but it will always be in agreement with His Word. Tonight, spend time reading a portion of God's personal letter to you and allow Him to speak to your heart. God’s Word is one of the most precious gifts we have. Treasure it.

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 23 2017 – A Rock-Solid Foundation

Image
Topic: A Rock-Solid Foundation [Sunday April 23, 2017] [Jesus] said to them, But who do you [yourselves] say that I am? Simon Peter replied, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. —  Matthew 16:15-16 When Peter said that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God, it was a statement of faith. In making this statement, Peter was displaying faith. I don’t think Peter just casually or nonchalantly made that statement. I think he did it with a surety and a certainty that impressed Jesus because He immediately turned to Peter and told him that he was blessed. Then He went on to say that it was upon this rock-solid foundation of faith that He would build His church. Jesus was saying to Peter, “If you maintain this faith, it will be a rocklike substance in your life upon which I will be able to build My kingdom in you, and through you. Your faith will be developed to the place that even the gates of hell will not be able to prevail against you.” There have been many times i...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 19 2017 – Avoid Worldly Competition

Image
Topic: Avoid Worldly Competition [Wednesday April 19, 2017] Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages).  — Hebrews 13:8 Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another. — Galatians 5:26 According to the world's system, the best place to be is ahead of everyone else. Popular thinking would say that we should try to get to the top no matter who we have to hurt on the way up. But the Bible teaches us that there is no such thing as real peace until we are delivered from the need to compete with others. Even in what is supposed to be considered "fun games," we often see competition get so out of balance that people end up arguing and hating one another rather than simply relaxing and having a good time together. Naturally, human beings don't play games to lose; everyone is going to do his best. But wh...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 17 2017 – Help Hurting People

Image
Topic: Help Hurting People [Monday April 17, 2017] He who despises his neighbor sins [against God, his fellowman, and himself], but happy (blessed and fortunate) is he who is kind and merciful to the poor. —  Proverbs 14:21 Helping the poor and those who are less fortunate than we are is not only a nice thing to do, but according to the Bible, it is our responsibility. God cares deeply for the poor and needy and seems to have a special place in His heart for the widow and the orphan because they are alone and unable to meet all their needs. God gives us hearts of compassion, but when needs arise we can’t close our hearts—we need to open our hearts and our hands wide to help the poor. When we give to the poor, the Bible says that we lend to the Lord. Anything we give to help hurting people, God will always return many times over. Not only will He meet our needs, but our joy will increase as a result of giving in love. I urge you to share what you have with those who are less fortu...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 16 2017 – Be Blessed

Image
Topic: Be Blessed [Sunday April 16, 2017] Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her, [saying], Many daughters have done virtuously, nobly, and well [with the strength of character that is steadfast in goodness], but you excel them all. —  Proverbs 31:28-29 A virtuous and worthy wife [earnest and strong in character] is a crowning joy to her husband…(Proverbs 12:4). She enjoys the praise of her children and husband. They rise up to call her blessed. Her husband says that many daughters have been virtuous and noble but that she exceeds them all. In other words, he says that she is the best wife anyone could ever have. He applauds and celebrates her strength of character and goodness. One year my birthday happened to be during one of our conferences, and my husband, Dave, stood up and read Proverbs 31 to me in front of a room filled with people. Then my children one by one rose up to say kind and edifyin...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 15 2017 – Your Source of Security

Image
Topic: Your Source of Security [Saturday April 15, 2017] “Let the beloved of the Lord rest secure in him, for he shields him all day long, and the one the Lord loves rests between his shoulders.” —   Deuteronomy 33:12 NIV One way to know whether you really love yourself in a healthy, bal¬anced way or not is to ask yourself whether you are a relatively secure person or whether you struggle with insecurity. Simply put, insecurity is a feeling that you really aren't "good enough," or needing others' approval in order to be confident. It has to do with whether your life is built on the unshakable foundation of God's love or the faulty founda¬tion of what others think of you. Your security does not depend on your bank account, your job, the way you look, other people's opinions of you or even the way others treat you. I know this can be tempting in today's world, but I urge you not to base your security on your educational or professional achieve¬ments, the ...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 14 2017 – Our Best Help

Image
Topic: Our Best Help [Friday April 14, 2017] I will lift up my eyes to the hills—from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. —  Psalm 121:1-2 NKJV We should be maturing in our faith to the point that we don't run to someone else every time we need to know what to do. I am not implying that asking for a word of counsel from people we feel are wiser than we are is wrong, but I do believe asking for people's opinions excessively and relying on them too heavily is wrong and insulting to God. As you can tell from today's verse, David sought God first and knew God was his only help. The same is true for us, so we must be like David and always look to God first. We need to develop a habit of seeing God as our "first choice" for advice, not as our last resort. God may use a person of His choice to clarify things, offer additional insight, or confirm what He has already told us, so seek Him first and if He leads you to a person, fol...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 13 2017 – Sufficient Grace

Image
Topic: Sufficient Grace [Thursday April 13, 2017] …My grace (My favor and loving-kindness and mercy) is enough for you [sufficient against any danger and enables you to bear the trouble manfully]; for My strength and power are made perfect (fulfilled and completed) and show themselves most effective in [your] weakness.… —   2 Corinthians 12:9 Do you ever wonder why God does not always deliver you from your bondage and problems immediately? The reason is because only the Lord knows everything that needs to be done in the lives of His children—and the perfect timing for it to be done. You are not always delivered from your distress at the precise moment you call on the name of the Lord. Sometimes you must endure for a while, be patient and continue in faith. Thank God, during those times in which the Lord decides for whatever reason not to deliver you right away, He always gives the grace and strength you need to press on toward eventual victory.

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 12 2017 – High Praises of God

Image
Topic: High Praises of God [Wednesday April 12, 2017] Let the saints be joyful in the glory and beauty [which God confers upon them]; let them sing for joy upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their throats and a two-edged sword in their hands. —  Psalm 149:5-6 We should form a habit of thanking and praising God as soon as we wake up each morning. While we are still lying in bed, let’s give thanks and fill our minds with Scripture. Praise defeats the devil quicker than any other battle plan. Praise is an invisible garment that we put on and it protects us from defeat and negativity in our minds. But it must be genuine, heartfelt praise, not just lip service or a method being tried to see if it works. We praise God for the promises in His Word and for His goodness. Worship is a battle position! As we worship God for Who He is and for His attributes, for His ability and might, we draw closer to Him and the enemy is defeated. We can never be too thankful! Thank God al...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 11 2017 – Overcome Evil with Good

Image
Topic: Overcome Evil with Good [Tuesday April 11, 2017] Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good. —   Romans 12:21 We must not use our personal problems as an excuse to be grouchy and unloving with other people. Always remember that we overcome evil with good. This is why it is so important that we trust God, and while we are waiting on a change in our circumstances, we should remember to do good, do good, and do good! In the Bible, the apostle Paul shares how even in times when he was suffering, he believed that God would take care of those things that he entrusted to Him (see 2 Timothy 1:12-14). We can be grateful that, like Paul, we are called to give our problems to God and refuse to worry. A simple formula for victory is trust God, don’t worry, do good, and keep meditating on and confessing God’s Word, because God’s Word is the weapon we have been given by which we can overcome evil and do good. Prayer of Thanks: Thank You, Father, that n...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 10 2017 – Evil Forebodings

Image
Topic: Evil Forebodings [Monday April 10, 2017] All the days of the desponding and afflicted are made evil [by anxious thoughts and forebodings], but he who has a glad heart has a continual feast [regardless of circumstances]. —  Proverbs 15:15 Shortly after I began to seriously study the Bible, I felt an oppressive atmosphere around me. Everything seemed gloomy—as if something bad was going to happen. It wasn’t anything I could explain, just a vague, dreaded sense of something evil or wrong about to happen. “Oh, God,” I prayed. “What’s going on? What is this feeling?” I had hardly uttered the question when God spoke to me. “Evil forebodings.” I had to meditate on that for several minutes. I had never heard the phrase before. God had spoken to me, and I stayed quiet before Him so I could hear the answers. I realized, first of all, that my anxieties weren’t real—that is, they were not based on true circumstances or situations. I was having problems—as most of us do—but they were not...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 8 2017 – Be Decisive

Image
Topic: Be Decisive [Saturday April 8, 2017] …A man of two minds (hesitating, dubious, irresolute), [he is] unstable and unreliable and uncertain about everything [he thinks, feels, decides]. —   James 1:8 Whatever the problem or situation, decision is always better than doubt and indecision. For example, if you have had a quarrel with someone, it is much easier to decide to apologize than it is to stay angry and be filled with unforgiveness, bitterness, and resentment while you are waiting for the other person to apologize to you. Be a peacemaker, and you will have a lot of joy. I spent many years making war; and believe me, the price I paid was high. It cost me my peace and my joy and sometimes my health. Jesus has a way, and we can do it His way and enjoy life. Indecision wastes a lot of time, and time is too precious to waste. Become a decisive person, and you will accomplish a lot more with less effort. No one learns to hear from God without making mistakes. Don't be overly ...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 7 2017 – Imperfect, but Perfectly Loved

Image
Topic: Imperfect, but Perfectly Loved [Friday April 7, 2017] There is no fear in love [dread does not exist], but full-grown (complete, perfect) love turns fear out of doors and expels every trace of terror! —  1 John 4:18 We cannot love ourselves unless we realize how much God loves us, and if we don’t love ourselves, we cannot love other people. We cannot maintain good, healthy relationships without this foundation of love in our lives. By the time I met the man I have been married to since 1967, I was desperate for love but did not know how to receive it, even when it was available. My husband, Dave, really did love me, but I found myself constantly deflecting his love due to the way I felt about myself down deep inside. As I entered into a serious and committed relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, I began to learn about God’s love. But it took a long time to fully accept it. When you feel unlovable, it is hard to get it through your head and down into your heart tha...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 6 2017 – The Christian Life Is an Adventure

Image
Topic: The Christian Life Is an Adventure [Thursday April 6, 2017] But as for you, the anointing (the sacred appointment, the unction) which you received from Him abides [permanently] in you . . . -   1 John 2:27 God has great adventures for our lives. It’s exciting when He puts dreams and desires in our hearts, but it can also be challenging, because adversity always comes against us when we try new things. That’s why so many people fail to move forward—the roadblocks in the path ahead intimidate them. But instead of giving up at the thought of a challenge, we can choose to be bold, confident and courageous through Christ. God doesn’t want us to live timid, shy, weak, wimpy, fearful, boring lives. He wants us to be bold, confident and courageous, unafraid to try new things. And it never ceases to amaze me what God will do through a person who simply steps out in faith. When God asks you to leave the familiar behind—to set out on any new adventure—let His Word encourage you to ke...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 5 2017 – Breathe Life into Your Dreams

Image
Topic: Breathe Life into Your Dreams [Wednesday April 5, 2017] For a dream comes with much business and painful effort . . . -  Ecclesiastes 5:3 I’m sure this is why many people give up on their dreams somewhere along the way. When they find out it will take effort, be costly and uncomfortable to complete their preparation for the birth of that dream, they conclude it wasn't really God's will after all and go and do something else. I want to encourage you to go press through the hard part because if you give up, you will never be completely satisfied. Faith becomes stronger as we are required to use it. So how do we successfully make it through preparation and give birth to our God-given dreams? Here are three keys to help you get there: 1. Be Confident that God is working Whatever dream God has put in your heart, stand in faith, believing He can bring it to pass. Each day, as you pursue the promise He has given you, make it a habit to say, “God’s working!” You may not know ...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 4 2017 – Have You Talked to God Today?

Image
Topic: Have You Talked to God Today? [Tuesday April 4, 2017] In the morning You hear my voice, O Lord; in the morning I prepare [a prayer, a sacrifice] for You and watch and wait [for You to speak to my heart]. —  Psalm 5:3 I think some people don’t begin their day talking to God because they don’t realize what a great honor and privilege it is to be invited to do so. We hear so often that we need to pray that perhaps we tend to over-spiritualize the idea and end up seeing it as something that is a job or an obligation rather than an honor. It doesn’t have to be eloquent, or even necessarily long, but trying to live without it is foolish. It’s asking God to meet your need or someone else’s. It’s praising Him and thanking Him. It’s about committing things to Him and honestly sharing your worries and concerns with Him. There is no subject off limits with God—you can talk to Him about anything without the fear of being misunderstood, judged critically, or reproached for your faults....

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 3 2017 – You Can’t Drive a Parked Car

Image
Topic: You Can’t Drive a Parked Car [Monday April 3, 2017] Establish my steps and direct them by [means of] Your word.… —  Psalm 119:133 People often ask, "How do I know what God wants me to do with my life?" Some spend many years being totally immobile because they are waiting to hear a voice from heaven telling them what to do. My best advice to anyone in this position is to simply do something. Do what you think God might be calling you to do and if you make a mistake, He will help you correct it. Don't spend your life so afraid of making a mistake that you never try to obey what you believe God has spoken to you. I like to say, you can't drive a parked car. You need to be moving if you want God to show you which way to go. He has no need to say to you, "Turn left" if you are not going anywhere. But if you are moving, He can give you directions. Let me insert a word of wisdom here. There are certainly times when we need to be still, wait on God, pray,...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 2 2017 – Seek the Truth

Image
Topic: Seek the Truth [Sunday April 2, 2017] The sower sows the Word. The ones along the path are those who have the Word sown [in their hearts], but when they hear, Satan comes at once and [by force] takes away the message which is sown in them. —  Mark 4:14-15 If you hear or study the Word, the devil will immediately attempt to steal it from you. He does not want the Word to take root in your heart and begin to produce good fruit in your life. When you learn the truth, deception is uncovered and you are set free. Satan hates and fears the Word. He will do anything possible to prevent you from learning God’s Word. The reason Satan works so hard to keep you from the Word is simple: He knows the Word of God is a powerful weapon against him. It assures his defeat! That is why it is imperative that you learn to wield the spiritual sword. Reading, hearing, believing, meditating on, and confessing the Word cancels Satan’s evil plan. Tonight, determine to make the Word of God a prior...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional April 1 2017 – Quick to Forgive

Image
Topic: Quick to Forgive [Saturday April 1, 2017] And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted…forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you. —  Ephesians 4:32 The Bible teaches us to forgive “readily and freely.” That is God’s standard for us, no matter how we feel about it. We are to be quick to forgive. According to 1 Peter 5:5, we can clothe ourselves with the character of Jesus Christ, meaning that we can choose to be long-suffering, patient, not easily offended, slow to anger, quick to forgive, and filled with mercy. My definition of “mercy” is to look beyond what is done to me that hurts and discover the reason why it was done. Many times people do things even they don’t understand themselves, but there is always a reason why people behave as they do. Perhaps they are hurting and in their own pain they don’t even realize they are hurting someone else. God forgives! We are to be merciful and forgiving, just as God in Ch...

Joyce Meyer's daily devotional February 13, 2017 – You Are God's Favorite

Image
Topic: You Are God's Favorite [Monday February 13, 2017] Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings. —  Psalm 17:8 What does it mean to be a favorite? It means to be particularly favored, esteemed, and preferred. It means to enjoy special attention, personal affection, and preferential treatment, even without being deserving of it. There is nothing about you or me or anyone else that can cause us to become God's favorite. He chooses us for that place of honor and esteem by an act of His sovereign grace. All we can do is receive His gracious gift in an attitude of thanksgiving and humility. Now when I talk about being the favorite of God, I must make something clear. Because God is God of all His creation, and because He has a personal relationship with each one of His children, He can say to every single one of us at the same time, and sincerely mean it, "You are the apple of My eye; you are My favorite child." It took a while for me to c...
